ADMIN: It's time to say "goodbye"

Hi,

I am sorry to say this but, after 14.5 years and over 650 challenges celebrating all things Stargate Atlantis (SGA FTW!), I think it's time to say goodbye.

Participation has been low for a while, but has fallen further over recent months and it doesn't make sense to keep the community limping along indefinitely. The most recent challenge after the hiatus sadly didn't see any difference.

Therefore, Challenge 665 will be this community's final hurrah.

I'd like to take this opportunity to say that it's been a real honour running this community for all this time.

When I started this community back in April 2006, I really thought it would be a cute hobby for a little while before it petered out.

And when the show was cancelled in 2009, I hadn't expected this community to last much longer, as people moved on to newer & shinier fandoms. But I am so happy I was proven wrong - and had another 11 years to appreciate the creativity and artistry of an infinitely talented fandom.

I'm always amazed at how much you guys can do with only 100 x 100 pixels!

Thank you, thank you, thank you - to ALL of you.

Running an icontest community is quite time consuming, but every single one of you who has contributed (by entering, voting or just watching the community) has made it so worthwhile. This community and it's sister communities (mcshep_icontest and h50icontest) have been my happy place on LJ for so long.

I'll miss both the community and the friends I have made through it. It's going to be tough to let this place go.
